Satellite communications with Romantis UHP
Although satellite communications is a competitive mar-
ket with a large number of players, SatCom services are
still several times more costly than communications using
leased lines. Each byte sent into a satellite's spot beam
adds to the expense.
SatCom service providers generally offer their customers
public IP-based Internet access services. For the custom-
ers this means relinquishing control over their communi-
cations network. However, as an alternative, they can set
up their own private SatCom networks and run protocol-
independent data services over them. Unlike public net-
works, the customer retains full control over the private
network. Private networks also permit bandwidth opti-
mization and more flexible network designs with custom
topologies.
